Testing and inspection is an integral part of electrical installations as it verifies the integrity and safety of works. This is sometimes overlooked by other contractors and handymen. Every job no matter the size should come with appropriate certification. Custodian offers NICEIC certificates to customers, test certificates we supply include;
The purpose of an EICR is to prove the integrity of an existing installation. Insurance companies require these be conducted to businesses periodically, indeed it is recommended in the IEE wiring regulations BS7671 Guidance Notes 3 table 3.2 that a commercial building should be routinely checked once a year and tested every 5 years or when there has been a change of occupancy. Other buildings open to the public should be tested more frequently.
For domestic building the same chart recommends that the premises should be tested every 10 years or at the change of occupancy. These tests are required if you wish to rent your building by letting agencies and insurance companies also require this service.
This certificate should be offered after every new installation from new builds, rewires to shower installations where a new service is to be wired from scratch.
A Minor Works Certificate is submitted when a previous installation is added to or repaired. Even a job as small as changing a socket or replacing a light will come with this certificate at no extra cost.
It is recommended that businesses get there appliance tested frequently, indeed insurance companies ask for appliances to be tested yearly.
Emergency lighting tests should be conducted more frequently than most companies conduct them. Custodian can put together a package that will ensure safety a proper certification procedures are conducted.
A visual inspection is often over looked so long as someone has circuit values on a sheet. Visual inspections can verify earthing arrangements, check clipping and securing of cables and trunkings and the overall assessment of fixtures and fittings.
Custodian recommends anyone with the responsibility of looking after a premises must demand that certification by submitted upon the completion of electrical works.
